Our Mission
The Fetal Hope Foundation's mission is to provide support, provide information, fund research, increase awareness and be an outlet for leading medical information pertaining to fetal distresses and syndromes. We are all about arming families and healthcare providers with information and helping to save babies' lives.
About Us
No parent should ever have to accept that there is no hope to save their child's life. Having battled TTTS, we experienced firsthand the power of hope. Thanks to vigilant seeking of information, we were able to reach hope. For us, our miracle worker was Dr. Quintero who saved our babies lives. Today we have two beautiful healthy twin girls. They have no affects, health issues or otherwise from their battle for survival. We know we were very lucky to not only have them survive, but without any adverse affects is nothing short of a miracle. With our battle a success we could have easily taken this victory and returned to a normal life. However, that was not us and we knew that awareness was the key to providing hope to others being affected. In 2004, Lonnie left his full time position as a CFO and spent the next eight months creating the TTTS Race for Hope organization and event. The TTTS Race for Hope’s mission is to raise awareness through its events, support other organizations missions in fighting TTTS, and fund medical research. Within its 2 years, the TTTS Race for Hope reached more than 1 million people directly and indirectly through its events and awareness campaigns. The first two events, in Denver, raised more than $50,000 and has become a main attraction. In 2006, the Fetal Hope Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, was born from the TTTS Race for Hope. Fetal Hope was created to align a truly patient supported foundation to the leading fetal maternal medicine centers and doctors around the world, to support additional fetal distresses and syndromes that are not currently supported by other organizations, to provide factual medical information on fetal syndromes, to provide unconditional support to families dealing with these syndromes, and to provide an outlet for the fetal medicine centers and doctors to publish and inform the public on new technologies providing hope to save our babies.

Aligned with some of the world’s leading fetal medicine centers, Fetal Hope has been organized to provide accurate and factual information for families dealing with syndromes and distresses such as Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), Acardiac Twinning (TRAP sequence), Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS), Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), Selective Intrauternine Growth Restriction (SIUGR), Fetal Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction (LUTO) and many other fetal distresses and syndromes. Our organization is about HOPE. No family should ever be left without HOPE. Fetal distress and syndromes affect 800,000 pregnancies per year in the US alone. This is four times the amount of cases per year as breast cancer. We lose more than 200 babies a day to fetal distresses and syndromes. Upon diagnosis families often struggle with not knowing or knowing little about their diagnosis, they feel alone in their search for information, help and support. You are not alone, we are here for you. Hundreds of thousands of pregnancies are affected each year, but many go undiagnosed and/or untreated. With more than 200 babies lost every day, some may have been saved with proper diagnosis and treatment. If you or a family member are in need of support or looking for additional resources please contact the Fetal Hope Foundation at 1-877-789-HOPE or via email at info@fetalhope.org.
Lonnie Somers, Chairman, CEO & Founder
Mr. Somers and his wife, Michelle, founded the TTTS Race for Hope and the Fetal Hope Foundation based on their own experience with TTTS that nearly took their daughters' lives. Having a passion for running and being a marathoner as well, Mr. Somers organized and developed the TTTS Race for Hope to spread awareness and raise funds. As success of the event and awareness increased, Mr. Somers, along with the board, saw an opportunity to further support fetal syndromes and work directly with the leading fetal centers and medical professionals from around the world. This led to the creation of today’s Fetal Hope Foundation.
